Tarot influencer turns to Christ as PC(USA) OKs LGBTQIA+ signals, report says

A report highlighted by Prophecy News Watch says two trends are unfolding at once: occult practices moving into mainstream culture and some visible practitioners leaving those practices after encountering Jesus Christ—while parts of progressive Christianity reshape doctrine to align with contemporary views.

High‑profile turnarounds cited

According to the report, Alexandra Ashcroft—who built a large following as “Alex Reads Tarot”—deleted her tarot content in June and told followers, “Jesus Christ has saved my life, and I can no longer ignore that reality.” The report says she described nearly a year of questioning and prayer that led her to conclude Christianity and her tarot work could not coexist.

The report also points to tattoo artist Kat Von D, who wrote in 2022 that she was discarding books on witchcraft, the occult, and tarot, saying, “I got a lot of things wrong in my past.” It says she later described alternative spiritual practices as empty efforts to fix something deeper, began attending church, embraced Christianity, and was baptized.

PC(USA) policy moves and pastor statements

The Prophecy News Watch piece contrasts those accounts with developments it highlights inside the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). It notes that the denomination says it celebrates “all gender identities and sexual orientations” and that it amended its constitution to protect those categories in church life. It also states that this summer the PC(USA) General Assembly approved a way for congregations to signal they are ready to call LGBTQIA+ pastors. During debate, a trans nonbinary pastor reportedly opposed the measure not for going too far, but on the grounds that queer pastors should be able to enter churches that had not yet had those conversations and “help people grow.”

Prophecy News Watch also cites undercover footage it says shows Rev. Jim Rigby of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas, praising The Inclusive Bible as “good on the gender stuff.” Separately, the Texas Tribune reported this year that Rigby avoids traditional prayers and creeds so non‑Christians will not feel excluded, and that he sees Jesus as closer to a “loving atheist than an indifferent theologian.”

The PC(USA) website has highlighted Rev. Bethany Peerbolte, who gained attention after appearing with a transgender stole. According to the report, she said she began making online content because Christianity content focused too much on the afterlife and too little on social justice.

How the commentary frames it

The commentary invokes Paul’s warning about people “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof,” and poses a question about whether the Church is following Jesus or reshaping Him to follow the culture. Those are the commentary’s characterizations; Kingdom Watch News is reporting the claims and quotations as attributed by the cited sources.
