As life speeds up alongside new technology, author-speaker-pastor Tommy Brown argues that a quieter way is still possible. In his new book, The Speed of the Soul, published in partnership with NavPress/Tyndale Publishers, Brown presents four “rhythms” he says can help readers slow down and regain focus in a noisy world.
The four rhythms he proposes
According to Brown, the path centers on practicing four commitments: loving deeply, living quietly, minding your own affairs, and working with your hands. He contends that finding this rhythm can lead to calm, contentment, focus, and greater presence.

Scriptural anchor
Brown connects these rhythms to 1 Thessalonians 4:9–12, framing them as a biblically grounded way to order life.
A boundary he calls the “wisdom circle”
As described in the book’s materials, Brown uses a “wisdom circle” illustration. The circle represents a boundary with parameters that both protect from distraction and highlight what he says truly matters: relationships, values, and a sense of calling.
What he says it delivers
Brown characterizes the result as feeling centered. “We awaken to the life of God in us and activity of God around us,” Brown wrote.
